Market research is an important factor for success in foreign markets. There are approximately 190 countries around the world, and you want to find the one or ones that are most promising for your product or service.

At this point, you need information that will give you a good idea of the political, economic and cultural that could affect your business in the country. For example, you know that a foreign market presents opportunities, but you need the facts to them. Or have you thought about a particular market and you want to know exactly what is the demand for your product or service.

Market research is the key that you learn more about these factors. It will confirm whether there really opportunities in a given market and help you understand what characterizes this market. You'll get a general idea of how you take to develop a new market. But more importantly, you'll be better able to determine what is important to your potential customers and what can influence their purchasing decisions.

The market is often a very thorough examination, but the three basic steps of the analysis are fairly straightforward:
Step 1: Review of potential markets

  • Gather statistics on exports of products or services in your area in different countries.
  • Choose between five and ten major markets experiencing rapid growth. Study their evolution over three to five years. The market is progressing there regularly from one year to another? Imports have increased it, even during periods of recession? If they declined, growth has it resumed when the economy has recovered?
  • Choose a few emerging markets are small, but which are still untapped opportunities. If the market is just beginning to open, you will probably have fewer competitors than in established market.
  • Choose between three and five markets, among the most promising, that you look more closely.
